AGACC is a Belgian contribution to the study of the Earth’s atmosphere composition. It is conducted by four scientific Belgian teams who have acquired, during the last decade, an unprecedented expertise in this research field. More specifically, they are experts in the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of high-quality field observations of the atmospheric composition, using a variety of instruments, and in high-accuracy laboratory measurements of spectroscopic parameters of atmospheric constituents.

The project joins international scientific research regarding the evolution of our environment, in particular climate and air quality. Furthermore, it is well in line with the european "Lisbon Strategy" aiming at the development of a top-quality scientific potential indispensable for creating a knowledge economy.

AGACC has a duration of 4 years, starting in 2006, and is supported by The Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (Belspo) under the theme "Climate and Atmosphere" of the "Science for a Sustainable Development (SSD)" Research Programme. It is a continuation of previous activities conducted by the same research groups (e.g. ESAC II project) within the frame of Belspo's SPSD I and II programmes.
